Computer Science Engineering (CSE) Department

Computer Science Engineering (CSE) encompasses a variety of topics that relates to computation, like analysis of algorithms, programming languages, program design, software, and computer hardware. In the past Computer Science was taught as part of mathematics or engineering departments & in the recent days it has emerged as a separate engineering field.

Faculty and students often collaborate on projects. Graduates from the CSE department are heavily recruited by many top companies. Graduates take up careers in the computing industry, the finance industry, traditional large engineering companies; start up companies, management consulting companies, medicinal informatics companies, and government.

 

What does a Computer Science Engineer do?

  • Design and develop software application for different industries
  • Manages the software, hardware & networks in any industry
  • Involves in the design and development of the hardware components of PCs & laptops
  • Develop software for peripheral computing devices such as printers, modems and scanners
  • Writes code and algorithms for operating systems like Windows, Linux etc.

  • Software Developers: Software developers are professionals who are concerned with facets of the software development process which involves activities such as design and coding, computer programming, project management, etc.
  • Hardware Engineers: These professionals do research, design, develop, test, and oversee the installation of computer hardware which inter alia includes computer chips, circuit boards, systems, modems, keyboards, and printers.
  • System Designer: Professionals involved in system designing, Logical & Physical Designing wherein logical designing can be enumerated as the structure & characteristics such as output, input, files, database & procedures, etc.
  • System Analyst: Computer engineers who work as systems analyst do research about the existing problems and plan solutions for the problem. They also recommend software and system related problems and coordinate development between business development teams.
  • Networking Engineers: Networking engineers are computer professionals involved in designing, implementation, and troubleshooting of computer networks.
  • DBA: DBA or Database Administrator are the professionals who are bestowed with the job to design, implement, maintain, and repair an organization’s database. Inter alia DBA professionals are also known as Database Coordinator or Database Programmer in IT sector.
  • Software Testers: A Software Tester ensures that software applications work properly by finding bugs (errors) and issues before a product is released to users. They help deliver high-quality, reliable software.

Program Eligibility

B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (B.Tech CSE)

B.Tech CSE is a 4-year undergraduate engineering course on practical and theoretical knowledge of computer hardware and software. The minimum eligibility for this course requires passing class 12th/ Higher Secondary Examination in Physics, Mathematics, and English with a minimum of 50% marks.

B.Tech CSE graduates can find employment in academic institutions, IT software companies, journalism, sales, and marketing. The job profiles for graduates of this course can be a lecturer, technical editor, content developer, Software engineer, software developer, programmer analyst, test engineer etc.

Eligibility

The minimum eligibility for this course requires, passing the higher secondary school certificate (10+2) examination with science subjects such as maths, physics, and English as compulsory courses. In addition, they must also have one Subject out of Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Computer Science.

Minimum percentage of marks in class 12/ higher secondary Examination is generally from 45% to 50%. Since most institutions have an Entrance Exam, the students who have appeared in Higher Secondary Examination and are awaiting results can apply too.

Programme Eligibilty For M. Tech

 M.Tech (Master of Technology) Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)

M.Tech. CSE is a 2-year postgraduate course offering specialization in computer programming languages and computer system technologies. Enrolled students investigate complex problems through research and use appropriate modern engineering tools to find solutions.

Eligibility for M.Tech  CSE:

To be eligible to pursue this course in India, a student must have completed a bachelor’s degree in computer science or any related subject from a well-recognized university.

M.Tech. CSE is designed to offer eligible candidates the requisite skills needed in the application, research, and development activities in emerging areas of Computer Science. The course focuses on AI and AI-related applications in a distributed computing environment.

As a minimum criterion of eligibility, aspiring candidates need to have completed:

  • Higher and Senior Secondary levels of education (classes X and XII) with a minimum aggregate score of 60%.
  • Tech./ BE (IT/CSE/EEE/ECE/ Instrumentation & Control) with a minimum aggregate score of 60%.
  • Often candidates are required to qualify an Institute, State or National-level entrance test for admission to the course.

Admission Process

The admission process for M.Tech. CSE course is varied, as various institutes have their very own criteria and processes of admission. Admission to the course is often based on the candidate’s performance in GATE, followed by a round of counselling, wherein the student’s general aptitude for the course is examined, and based on performance in which, students are admitted.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination that primarily tests the candidate’s comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Technology.

The prerequisites for appearing for GATE are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2/ Post-B.Sc./ Post-Diploma).
  • Pursuance of the second or higher year of a four-year integrated Master’s degree program (Post-B.Sc.) in Engineering/Technology.
  • Pursuance of the fourth or higher year of a five-year integrated Master’s degree program or a Dual Degree program in Engineering/Technology.
  • A qualification obtained through any of the examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (AMIE, AMICE) by the Institute of Civil Engineers (India), as equivalent to B.E./ B.Tech.

About Laboratories

CSE Department Labs

The Department has four well equipped computer laboratories to meet the requirement of the curriculum. Sufficient systems are available for students, maintaining the prescribed PC to students ratio of 1:4 as per the AICTE norms.

 

Licensed Softwares Available:

Realizing the importance of rapid advancements in the Computer Science & Information Technology sectors, all the laboratories have been furnished with high speed LAN. The labs are updated and upgraded frequently as per the requirements and demand of industry. The well equipped laboratories help students to meet ever increasing technological and social challenges with its traditions of self discipline, hard work and a creative approach to solve problematic issues. 

Some of the labs which student undergo are:

Computer Graphics Lab/Multimedia Technologies Lab

Computer Graphics lab is well equipped & licensed software of C++ and Flash Player that runs on Microsoft windows XP. Here, operations on 2 dimensional & 3 dimensional object images are done. Various effects like motion, colors, pattern effects, translation, rotation, and scaling, shearing operations are implemented. Various algorithms for polygon clipping, polygon drawing and filtering operations on 2-D & 3-D object’s images are implemented in this lab.

 

C/C++/LINUX Lab

C/C++ Lab is well equipped and also uses Linux operating system. Students prepare programs on C & C++ to implement the concepts of structured programming and object oriented programming respectively. Students are introduced with the concept of Class and object creation, applying inheritance, polymorphism etc. in this lab.

 

DBMS Lab

This Lab is well equipped with Core 2 duo processor, Laser printer and Oracle 8i/9i as the application software. The students are introduced with the concepts of structured query language to properly understand the management of database of any system. Various models of database can be studied and realized using the facilities available in the lab.

 

Compiler Design Lab

Compiler Design Lab is well equipped with i7 Processors. Here study and implementation of compiler is done. Lexical analyzer and YACC compiler tools are studied in detail.
