The department has a rich tradition of teaching and research and is widely recognized to be a pioneer in Electrical Engineering education. The research interests of the faculty members encompass a wide gamut of sub-disciplines of Electrical Engineering. Collaboration with faculty members from other disciplines, both within and outside the institute, is encouraged. The lab facilities and the infrastructure are regularly upgraded and are well supported by the institute .
M.Tech in Electrical Engineering covers traditional areas like generation, distribution and transmission of electricity as well as new age applications in electronics & computers. New areas include Intelligence control approaches for Engineering system applications, Virtual Instrumentation, EHV Transmission, Advanced Power System, Biomedical Instrumentation , Control systems etc. The student learns to research, design, develop, test and supervise electronic systems and the production of electronic and electrical devices and equipment. Job opportunities are abounding, with electrical engineers being employed in power plants of all types, electricity boards, atomic power plants, robotics, biomedical electronics, petroleum, natural gas, chemical and steel plants. The students are assigned with a major project during the 3rd & 4th semesters where they carry out the developmental work under the guidance /supervision of the staffs to strengthen their knowledge in that respective field of work.
B.Tech / M.Sc. in relevant streams with 60%.
